CHARACTER NAME: Primrose Everdeen
SERIES: The Hunger Games
CANON POINT: Post-The Hunger Games ( Book One )
LOSS: Prim will be unable to touch an animal. If she tries her hand will feel hot as if it has been burned, although she will be unharmed.

ABOUT THE CHARACTER:
Prim is one of the kindest individuals that you will meet, and in that respect is ver much a contrast to her sister, Katniss. Where Katniss likes to hunt Prim prefers to care, and once when Katniss took her hunting even though Prim managed to successfully shoot an animal she ended up wanting to help it, crying as it died. Prim's caring nature extends to everyone and everything, and she loves both people and animals, and even pleaded with Katniss not to kill a cat that she'd brought home despite it being swarming with parasites. Prim cared for the animals, loving it and kept it as a pet. Prim's animal collection grew when Katniss bought her a goat. Although it was sick Prim ( although mostly her mother ) gave it medicine to heal it, and after time and care ( which Prim gave it a lot of ) it was able to provide them with milk, some of which Prim made in to cheese to sell. Prim also has a few routines, things that she always made certain to do each day even if they weren't necessary ( for example cleaning coal dust from her father's shaving mirror even though he is dead because he didn't like dust ) - Prim still does these due to the love she has for the people involved.

Prim's caring nature extended into her learning how to be a healer. Although Prim does not yet know much she does assist her mother when she is treating someone, and through that has gained experience and knowledge to begin a path into healing. Due to the nature of District 12, with it being a poor district, it means that there are few supplies that are available for Prim and her mother's work, causing them to either make their own through medicinal herbs ( which Prim knows a lot regarding ) and rely on their own skills and time. Prim has been described as having a passion and talent for healing, and despite some of the gruesome and bloody sights that pass through their kitchen Prim is unphased by them, putting aside what she sees in order to help and heal.

As well as being kind and caring Prim is also cautious, and Katniss has said that she is "scared of her own shadow". Her cautiousness is not always through fear, however, and it can help Prim to learn more about a situation before rushing in ( unlike Katniss who is impulsive and headstrong ). Although Prim is a more delicate individual than her sister, who hardened and became strong for her family after her father died, Prim is strong in her own way, trusting in her talents and the skills of those around her and using their strengths to help her. After being reaped for the Hunger Games, even though Prim knew that she wouldn't be able to survive the Games she still tried to stop Katniss after she'd volunteered in her place, knowing that the same may happen to Katniss. Despite this Prim has a lot of faith, particularly in Katniss and after Katniss took Prim's place in the Hunger Games Prim, despite her fear, had faith that Katniss would return due to her skills in survival and hunting. Prim is also incredibly close to Katniss, who has done a lot for her including helping to keep her alive ( first through providing food for the family and then by taking her place in the Hunger Games ). As well as Katniss helping and protecting Prim, as well as being a source of strength for her ( just by her presence or Prim thinking about what she would do ), Prim is also an influence for Katniss - thinking of Prim was the reason why Katniss continued through the Hunger Games and after, and when Katniss was struggling with the idea of being the Mockingjay Prim provided support for her, and helped her understand and deal with it.

Prim is also a forgiving individual, partly due to her kind nature but also because she is not a confrontational individual and would rather get along with others. After their mother retreats into depression due to their father dying Katniss was angry with her for abandoning them, as had Katniss not taken care of the family the two girls would have been removed. Prim forgives her mother for her retreat, in a way understanding how she feels due to the sadness that Prim also feels for the loss of her father ( even though she was too young to fully understand what it happens ) and still loves and cares for her mother, brushing and plaiting her hair every morning before school. Due to living in District 12, a poor district, Prim is small for her age in both stature and weight. After Katniss met Rue in the Hunger Games she was reminded of Prim due to her size and demeanour ( both were sweet, kind and intelligent girls ) and also due to how she stood ( both girls stood on their toes with their arms slightly extended ). Prim also enjoys music, and although their mother forbade them speaking of a specific song ( "The Hanging Tree" ) it was one that Prim had heard Katniss sing on occasion with her father, although she was too young to understand what it meant.

Prim is also a smart girl. After the alarms in the mines sounded due to an accident ( specifically the accident that killed their father ), instead of leaving the classroom that she had been in ( like others had ) Prim instead waited there for Katniss to come for her, saving her sister having to search for her. Another example of Prim's intelligence is her knowledge of plants, herbs and medicines - for her young age the amount that she knows, as well as the skills that she possesses show that she is smart and capable of understanding not only what she needs to do but also the effects of what she is doing. Due to first helping her mother when patients were brought to her Prim later dreamed of becoming a doctor, something that would allow her to help people as she wished.

Prim is also able to motivate others, for example when Katniss thought of her to help her continue in the Hunger Games, Prim is also able to motivate others through her words ( and presence, in certain situations ). After Katniss leaves Prim's presence, and the fact that she needs her mother, is what keeps her mother with her, stopping her mother from retreating back into her depression. Prim is also able to help and motivate Katniss - when Katniss is troubled Prim is whom she turns to to talk to, and Prim often manages to help her with her problems. During Katniss' photoshoot of her wedding dress Prim helped Katniss with her dress and helped to keep her calm as Katniss didn't like what was happening. Whilst Katniss was away during the Hunger Games ( and then the Quarter Quell ) Prim had to learn to live without her, being unable to depend on her any longer and after Katniss returned it surprised her how much Prim had grown up, and how mature she had become. Prim is able to help Katniss realise things that she may not have done alone, as due to Prim seeing the world ( and even the Capitol ) slightly differently as she hasn't hated or experienced it like Katniss has it provides Prim with a different perspective, something that she can convey to Katniss to help her see a fuller picture. Even though Prim has seen the devastation that the Hunger Games can cause, particularly in Katniss, this has not altered her view of the world as radically as Katniss', and despite her life she is still a rather optimistic girl, someone with a lot of hope and belief - hope that the rebels will win against the Capitol, and faith in Katniss.
ABILITIES:
Prim is a regular human girl with no special or extraordinary abilities. Katniss once taught her to hunt, and she was able to successfully shoot and kill an animal, Prim is not skilled at hunting and would prefer to not hunt, as she has often spoken of caring for the injured animals instead. Prim is also skilled in medicine and healing, although at her canon point she has little training and experience but has frequently helped her mother when she works
THIRD-PERSON WRITING SAMPLE:
It felt wrong. Her bed had always been uncomfortable, although she'd taken the most comfort from Buttercup, and Katniss when the two had stayed together. Moving to the Victor's houses had been something else. Prim hadn't expected the comfort, and the first night that she'd slept there she'd found it hard to sleep due to the feeling of the bed. It was soft, comfortable and at the same time uncomfortable. But this was different.

She was cold, feeling the breeze over her causing her to shiver slightly. The air was different, and Prim didn't remember having opened the window in her bedroom the night before. Prim reached out for her covers, hand grasping and instead finding nothing... nothing but grass, and leaves. Prim had felt the grass enough from when she'd gone into the woods with Katniss and her father, and she'd used enough leaves with her mother to know them. But why were they in her bed? Or rather why was she on them?

Opening her eyes slowly Prim lifted her head, letting out an inaudible gasp at what she saw. This wasn't her room, and actually it wasn't a room at all. She was in a forest... no, the wood; the wood that had been behind their house. Sitting herself up Prim rubbed at her eyes, making certain that she was actually awake and not dreaming this, but when she looked again her eyes showed her the same thing - leaves, grass and trees. She wasn't home, either of her homes, but how had she gotten to the woods?

"Katniss?" It was the only reason that she could think of, the only thing that she knew. Had Katniss brought her here whilst she'd been asleep? But how had she stayed asleep, and how had Katniss gotten her here?

    And why.

The leaves crunched under Prim's feet as she stood. Turning slowly Prim looked around her, looking for a sign of her sister, or even Gale. She couldn't see anything, not then anyway, but she knew that Katniss had gotten good at hiding - she'd had to. Even knowing that she could be discovered, that the Gamekeepers had started stricted patrols Prim called again - she'd rather risk that than be discovered.

"Katniss? Gale?" She just hoped that her sister, or Gale, would find her.
FIRST-PERSON JOURNAL SAMPLE:
[ It wasn't home, Katniss had told her as much, and she didn't know what to think of it. She'd been afraid at first, not just because she'd been brought here - to Paradisa but because of what had happened to Katniss... she didn't remember her. It had made Prim think at first of the Capitol, thinking that they'd done something to her but after Katniss had explained the story of the castle instead, and after the others had backed it up she'd believed them.

It didn't reassure her, though, and Prim wasn't certain if anything could. They were here. The Capitol wasn't but something had managed to bring them here and they couldn't leave, and as silly as she felt for being afraid she couldn't help it, and she didn't want to either - she didn't know what else to feel.

Prim looked hesitantly at her journal as she opened it. She'd stayed in Katniss' room since she'd arrived, trying to keep the journal shut. She hadn't been ready for everything, but now (with Katniss being out) she wanted to know something, or at least talk to someone ]

    Hello?

[ Talking into a journal... Prim hadn't really believed it until she'd seen Katniss show her it, and even now she was wary of it - it wasn't anything she'd seen before. At least writing would feel better, but she didn't have a pen ]

I know where I am, that I'm not home. Katniss told me. [ She paused for a moment as she thought - what exactly did you say? She took a moment, thumbing a page back, and then another. Everything that Prim read seemed to be like a conversation. It didn't help her know what to say, but maybe something simple could be a start? ] I miss it - home. I miss my mother, and Buttercup. [ Even home. It may not have been a 'life', not like how the richer districts or the Capitol lived but it was home, and it was all that she'd known ]

Katniss said that I might never see them, not unless the castle does it. I'm scared that I'll forget them. [ She'd have been scared that she might have forgotten Katniss, at least what she'd looked like had the Capitol not broadcast the Games, but for her mother? She didn't want to forget ] I don't want to forget.

[ She wanted to be home, or at least to be with them. She had Katniss, but it wasn't everything ]

INTENT: Because you guys are awesome and Katniss need a Prim? Prim's fun. Her world is so entirely different and her (and everyone's) stories are just filled with so much and thoughts and feelings and how it's affected her but seeing it away from everything. And just awesome cast. And Katniss. And rebuilding/making new memories. And everything. /is just a bundle of love
